Following up on Compete.com missing Compete.net dropping, a bigger story: Dallas Cowboys re-think Cowboys.com purchase.
A pretty bizarre story really. Cowboys.com was up during the TRAFFIC live auction. One of their attorneys was a phone-in bidder, bidding ‘$275′ - the auctioneer assumed $275,000, whereas the attorney was thinking $275.00
This is a perfect follow up to the Bobcats.com purchase, where the NBA team paid $50,000 for the domain.
Even more interesting is that Cowboys.com supposedly has a TM. And supposedly is the first domain ever granted a TM.
So where do we go from here? The Dallas Cowboys are far more of a global brand than Bobcats will be. The domain cowboys.com gets an estimated 2,000+ visitors a day. And here they expect to pay $275.00 for it?
Oh you fools.

DallasCowboys.com gets well over 1M visitors per day…seems like 2000+ is a drop in the bucket that is hardly worth $250,000?!?!
You “domainers” have no clue about real business!

Talk about a drop in the bucket, $250,000 is a drop in the bucket to an organization like that.
1M visitors a day? I think not. They’re lucky if they see 1/10th of that.

Sigh.
1. Have the balls to use your real name and not hide behind an alias
2. 1 million visitors a day is pushing it. The point is how much traffic DallasCowboys.com has. The point is Cowboys.com (to many) is about the sports team. Most teams have their name as a domain - Dallas is one of the few that don’t.
3. You protect your brand. Cowboys.com going to some other site dilutes it. We aren’t talking about an insignificant typo - 2000+ visitors a day is nothing to sneeze at.
