In my last post on blogging and social responsibility, I outlined how blogs are going the way of tabloid rags by option for sensationalist headlines (to get more links, to get more pageviews, to get more money). My two examples were related to Muslims.
As expected, the vitriol came out - I got a few angry emails, and a few insane comments (including one claiming I must be a pedophile - *shrug*). But what was astounding is that one individual keeps on manually posting comments to my blog. What is hilarious is this person is now resorting to whining that my blog hates “freedom of speech” - missing the obvious connection that as this is my blog, I can do whatever I please to do with it. Even more astounding is that this has been going on for three days. And I know this is manual because I sometimes leave a comment, and he replies - before I go ahead and delete them both.
So to ‘prove’ to me that I hate freedom of speech and that I am a dirty Muslim pedophile, he resorts to spamming my blog, insisting I have to follow his rules.
It goes without saying that he doesn’t have the guts to use his real name and/or email.

Honestly, Ahmed is one of the most truthful and fair bloggers out here. I don’t blame him for moderating spam comments one bit - one uninformed comment is enough, no need to allow more than that.

I noticed that it appears that he filters the key work f-r-e-e-d-o-m. Test it. I can’t post any thing that has that keyword. Fascist.

Hey, Ahmed, you must find those comments insulting, to give “some guy” this kind of exposure, but maybe it’s just me ( a white guy from Portugal ) and dont really understand the clash of religions taking place in North America, but this guy, if he is serious, cannot upset you - thats all he wants - and you really shouldn’t botter to answer him.
PS: Love your BloggyNetwork, and think you should give it more of your time and not focus in iBegin, dont know if there is where the money is, but BloggyNetwork really stands out visually from others “BlogNetworks” and that is a plus in my opinion, so a blog growth would be welcomed by me, and many others, I think

Bruno, that’s really nice but you don’t speak for all of us. It’s your right to give up _your_ freedom. But it’s not your right to give up mine.

Ahmed is one of the most respected bloggers I know and his blog post was an extremely well-written and truthful piece. I am all with you Ahmed and supported everything in that great post.
As he said, the fact that you use an alias and fail to have a correct email address says a whole lot about you, your courage, and your maturity level.

well, I for one find this topic very interesting. To give up our freedoms to appease a religion or to stand up for our rights?

For those wondering the ‘different’ usernames all talking about ‘freedom’ (though conveniently spamming me to stop my right to do what I want with this blog) are the same people - using different usernames sure was genius.
@Bruno - BloggyNetwork is still very important. We just relaunched the new design (well, 99% done) of Blog Flux, and also rolling out new features.
At the same time, I know what my strengths are, and what my weaknesses are. Managing writers is a weakness. Managing a tech team figuring out large scaling problems ala local is a strength.
Plus, and I’ll be honest, while BN is very intriguing, and our position of services + blogs + design puts us in an interest perspective, I do find local far more interesting. To a certain level blogging is maturing. Local is an absolute wild west, and lots to be done in it

It works fine on Firefox. I checked it out for you. It was a link to LiveLeak that sums up the situation.
Other people don’t have a problem with it. I will post the link again when I find it.
