I am (mostly was now) a big fan of Yahoo! Sports. It had a lot less clutter than most other competing sites and loaded fast. It got me the info I needed.
The new design (which went live a few days ago) is hovering between meh and meh. I absolutely hate the fact that they have pushed the scoreboards down to stick a damn ad in there.
But my lord - their damn search bar is beyond annoying. In FireFox, you can have the browser auto-find by just typing. Not so with Yahoo Sports - the damn thing automatically starts filling in the search box on top. I never clicked on the search box. I specifically clicked in the main content area. So why the hell is it filling in the input box?
Super Bowl - haven’t had much time to think of the internet today.
UPDATE February 6, 2007 - Looks like Yahoo! is listening. Don’t know if they are acting, but listening is half the battle ain’t it?

hmm. . . the find as you type in firefox worked for me as long as i activated it first by typing the ‘/’ key.

Interesting - but it still breaks the original functionality of the browser (’Search for text when I start typing’)
Thanks though - will have to remember this one.

I’d disagree that the original functionality of the browser was to find text as you start typing. That said, I’ve had auto-focus search boxes catch even my slash as I use the handy Firefox search feature. Pretty annoying.
I’ll agree that the new Yahoo! Sports look isn’t as useful. Maybe it’s just change, but like you, I went to Y!S because sites like foxsports.com looked too much like… well, Yahoo!’s new design.

Okay - it isn’t original functionality. And stuff like making the search input box as the ‘active’ input (ie Google, Live, Y! Search, etc) that is fine. But when I specifically *click* in the content area and start typing, and it still pushes focus on the input box - that is simply aggravating and annoying.
And yeah hrmm … the new design is starting to grate me more and more.
