I keep hearing about how great and fantastic and wonderful Yahoo! Answers is.
I have to ask – has any of the lauding pundits ever tested the site out?
First off, a lot of the ‘questions’ on the site are not even questions – just random musings or inflammatory trolls. A real question? Quite a few aren’t even close to that.
Of the remaining legitimate questions – the answers have nothing to do with the question (or they get it completely wrong). People are absolutely stuck up on getting more points and points and levels and levels. Case in point – Is there going to be a baseball game for the nintendo wii not including wii sports? The two answers are totally off base. The first one is nothing more than a comment. The second one is offbase. It took me literally 10 seconds to find Wii Sports games – and there it is, listed by Konami.
This isn’t the first time. Yahoo! Answers is less Q & A and more ‘Post random thought/question and watch everyone pile on to boost their points’. My favorite question was someone asking how tall the CN Tower was – 11 people answered exactly the same. Nevermind Google has the answer as the description in its first result, I can only imagine what the 10th person who answered was thinking.
I will concede there are some legitimate questions. But by and by, most of the answers are absolutely retarded and contribute zilch to the actual answer. Yahoo! Answers should just be renamed to Yahoo! Messageboards

I have to agree with you on this. And it’s funny, too, how my question I asked back when they first got this thing going was a real question I’d not been able to find the answer to myself yet it mysteriously never made it to be officially asked. Too political I guess.

Thanks for the giant run on, the lack of any spelling/grammar, and your wonderfully mature nickname.

I agree, I went and asked a legit question and got a bunch of trolls answering it. Yahoo Answers is full of unqualified individuals helping other individuals by, 99.9% of the time, giving them false advice.

Yahoo answers should be renamed to “A teenagers view of the world.” The advice that no one in their right mind should ever take. Real life experienced is usually gained by hard work, internalizing and searching credible sources of historical tried and tested solutions. A witty one liner on a page riddled with grammatical errors and spelling mistakes is hardly getting the answer to your question….. or at least not one that will work.

Thank god I found this post/blog. I couldn’t agree more on how much a waste of time Yahoo! answers is.
Filled with teen chit chat nonsense and people creating multiple accounts to pad their point base and level. The sheer odds of some people getting such a high “best answer” percentage is mind boggeling.
As someone else stated, the moderation is haphazard, many times just flat out wrong, and useless.

If the audience in who wants to be a millionaire were all brainless 14 year old girls, with nothing more on their mind than sms-ing their buddies. This audience would be the community on Yahoo Answers.
CRAP ANSWERS and ALL ANSWERS ARE MOSTLY SPECULATIVE AND Incorrect.

Yahoo answers is like Jerry Springer in written form. Most of the people on there are just too stupid and bored to post anything relevant to real life. The ones that do either get ignored or bombarded with narrow-minded responses that baffle me.
Though I have to admit, it’s amusing at times, in a disturbing sort of way.
